Do looks matter, whether for humans or machines? Let’s accept that we all get carried away to some extent by the looks in the first instance, but we do realize at times that looks can be deceptive till we have known the person or the equipment better. That brings to mind the Oreck Vacuum Cleaner-can hardly claim to be attractive, would rather be at the lowest rung of all vacuums going by the looks alone. But, how about its internal mechanism that makes it a favorite of many? Let’s examine that.
Oreck vacuums have been around since the time of our grandparents and they continue to look the same way even today. Does that mean the manufacturer has not incorporated any changes all these years? That will be wrong to conclude, as there have been a lot many changes that you can’t see from its exterior, everything under the hood has undergone many changes from the time it was first offered to users.
Oreck vacuum cleaners have continued to maintain their rating as the best upright vacuum cleaner on the market. The reasons for that are not difficult to guess. It’s a lightweight powerful machine that works efficiently with minimum to no maintenance with ready and affordable availability of spares. You won’t find any plastic casing around the bag as dust is collected in a simple outer bag made from a lightweight material that makes the changing of bag so convenient- simply unfasten the Velcro fastener and pull up the bag. That keeps the weight of the machine to just about eight pounds, rare among upright cleaners. That makes it easy to vacuum stairways.
But being lightweight shouldn’t cause any apprehensions about its power to clean. No other lightweight vacuum is as powerful-pound for pound. There are many consumer reports that testify that Oreck vacuums are the most powerful. Their Orex XL model is the lightest, quietest, yet the most powerful vacuum cleaner.
Oreck vacuum cleaners were always light and powerful but there have been constant improvements in the product. Their recent introduction of the Oreck XL3700 Hypo-allergenic upright vacuum cleaner comes with a built-in HEPA filter, which traps 99.9% of particles of size as small as 0.3 microns. Think of another machine that traps more dust!
There are other features too that make Oreck an ideal choice for most consumers. For instance, very thoughtfully the manufacturer provides a cord that is much longer than what you get with most other cleaners.
So, it will be wrong to conclude that the Oreck vacuum cleaners are outdated? You get models designed to eliminate 99.99% of allergens; or you may have wet/dry models that are the best money can buy. Oreck vacuum cleaners have continued to be among the most powerful vacuum cleaners.
Nor are Oreck vacuum cleaners out of fashion. There are the millions of satisfied customers that continue to prompt more and more people to patronize these machines.
Oreck has successfully been producing vacuum cleaners since ages. The original design of the machine coupled with latest technological developments make Oreck one the most desired vacuum for a lot of consumers.

Concerning Oreck Vacuum Bags...
It was in 1963 that David Oreck founded Oreck Company in the USA, with its main office in New Orleans, Louisiana. Its first model was an upright machine designed for hotel industry of the United States, which wanted to lightweight yet powerful equipment for the convenience of housekeepers who were not happy using the heavier models of that time.
Soon, the vacuums caught on with the hotel industry and got so popular that the people handling it in hotel industry wanted to have something similar for being used at their homes. That set the ball rolling for selling Oreck vacuums to general public. The manufacturer also provided disposable Oreck vacuum bags which became too popular and these days you can buy them online or from any retail dealer selling Oreck cleaners.
The foremost feature of an Oreck is its lightweight and is durable. The best part of Oreck vacuum bags is the Saniseal system that seals the dirt in the bag without exposing the user to the dust and dirt that it collects. Those affected by allergies simply love this feature. Dirt may have harmful organisms like bacteria, dander, mold and allergens. Once the bag is full you just throw it in the garbage.
Because of their top fill design, Oreck vacuum bags fill from the top, meaning that they won’t lose power pushing up dirt from previous cleanings. This new design is known as the Oreck XL Classic. Another excellent feature is that as you turn the machine on, there is no cloud of dust getting blown into the room. The company is so confident of the new design, that it offers you a thirty-day risk free trial.
Apart from being lightweight, the Oreck vacuums offer a very quiet operation.
Many people prefer to have these bags rather than using bag less vacuum cleaners that allow dirt and dust to escape to their surroundings and thus pose health risks.

Buying Oreck Vacuum Cleaner Replacement Parts
Any household equipment, however good its quality may be, would necessarily need maintenance in due course of time. Of course, Oreck vacuum cleaners are no exception despite the durability they offer.
Periodic maintenance is of utmost importance if you want to have an extended life of a machine. In case of a vacuum machine certain parts, like say vacuum filter need to be changed at specified intervals as mentioned by the manufacturers. The rubber belt too gets out of shape after a prolonged use. The machine may work even if you don’t replace it but its efficiency suffers. So, one should know a source of getting genuine spares as provided by the manufacturer, Oreck.
Oreck vacuums are some of the most durable vacuum cleaners around. However, some parts of the vacuum are made to be replaced at regular intervals, like the vacuum filter. Some, like the vacuum belt, are made of rubber and can stretch out of shape with general use. Therefore, it is smart to know where you can find genuine Oreck vacuum parts to properly service your Oreck vacuum cleaner.
Generally vacuum filters should be replaced at least two times a year. However, if the machine has been extensively used in too dusty an area or for collecting animal hair, it will be advisable to change the filter more frequently to continue to have an efficiently running machine. Apart from replacement of filters, it is good to clean them often to get the desired level of cleaning. Depending on its model, the frequency of changing filter in Oreck may vary.
Surely, you would have seen a small and thick rubber belt in your vacuum. As this belt connects the motor of the machine to the cleaning brush, it is one of the most important components of your machine. Every time you use the vacuum this belt comes in operation and being made of rubber, it is sure to get loose or may wear off. If it’s left loose the machine can’t work optimally. On the other hand, too tight a belt will cause the machine to overheat and it could even get burnt due to excessive heat. That’s why it’s so important to have a healthy belt all the time. Under normal operation and use the belt should be replaced after six months of use. You may inspect it occasionally to see any wear or tear and replace it if found damaged.
Make sure that you procure genuine replacements. You may order it online or buy it from an authorized service distributor of Oreck.

Oreck XL2000 Bagged Upright Vacuum
As advertised, this Oreck vacuum cleaner is truly a light cleaning machine since it has 8 lbs only! It is easy to handle, easy to carry and fits in the closet nicely. I especially like the full circular handle, which I think would be great for someone who has arthritis, or needs to be able to hold the vacuum handle in their most comfortable position, which can definitely vary from person to person. You simply have to try this Oreck vacuum to see what are you missing out.
It has a dull, quiet motor sound, which is not unpleasant to listen to. It is actually pink (I got the last Breast Cancer Awareness version left), which dresses up its appearance quite a bit. Excellent suction, reliable, works well. The slightly oversized front wheels make it almost effortless to push around. It has a super long cord, so I can do some serious vacuuming before having to switch outlets. It gets the crevices between the floor and walls well, with just one sweep.
I appreciate this; as I don't have to go back over the edges before I can declare the vacuuming finally complete. Also can be used for bare floors without having to make any adjustments. You can go from room to room quickly and easily.
The vacuum bags are changed from the top of the vacuum, a very simple (but ingenious) method. This makes for less mess, and makes them very easy to access. I'm not sure why all uprights don't use this simple technique, it's great. The Oreck has a Saniseal system, which helps keep dust inside of the vacuum, so you're not stuck breathing it in while you vacuum.
Another thing that is great about this Oreck vacuum cleaner being so light is that my children love to use it, and I feel comfortable letting them. It's light enough that they can handle it easily without running into furniture and damaging things, and they can move it around to get a good cleaning done. It also has a guard to protect furniture from accidental bumps.
Why I don't love it:
It has no on board attachments, which stinks. It's quite a trade-off for the durability that you get. The separate canister makes up for it, I guess. Especially considering that I got it along with the vacuum at no additional cost. The head is bulky, and does not get under furniture at all.
So what's the secret to it's cleaning power?
Simple. The Oreck has double helix shaped (remember the double helix DNA strands in Bio?) brushes that rotate fast, around 6500 RPM. That's almost twice as fast as most vacuums. Dirt doesn't stand a chance! When the salesperson demonstrated this feature for me in the store, it was very interesting when I was able to compare it to a "non-Oreck" vacuum cleaner and see the difference.
How can you find out more?
Go check out the Oreck web site, at http://www.Oreck.com. They still have the canister vac and iron promotions going, if you're interested. I highly recommend it!
